The PETNA Foundation partnered with Crocs, Inc., a leading manufacturer and retailer of casual footwear, to sponsor Earth Walk 2010 on Carriacou Island, Grenada, West Indies on July 30, 2010. The Earth Walk focused on the island’s ecological and natural sciences education for school age children. Crocs donated shoes to participating teachers and children of the Hillsborough Secondary School for the trek through the mangroves.

The day started with an assembly at Hillsborough where students and teachers learned about environmental issues and the importance of mangrove systems and received their Crocs shoes. During the walk, Dr. Valma Jessamy, a PETNA board member, identified different types of mangroves and organisms that live in the environment. She taught the children about the role mangroves play in the island’s fishing industry and maintaining and protecting the coastline from sea level changes. The children also learned how to care for their environment by picking up litter along the way.
